About a week and a half ago, Seth and I decided that we seriously needed to attempt a lifestyle change. Not a diet mind you because let's just be honest, who does that forever? We reworked things in both a financial way and a health way. We decided that instead of paying for EVERYTHING, and I do mean everything, with a debit card, we would get enough cash out once a week to last us through the week and pay for bills, gas, groceries, etc with our checking account. If there was anything that we needed such as a can of snuff (and I use the term need loosely) It made me sick when I realized how much we had been spending just eating out in the first two weeks of May! Eating out...that brings me to my next point. We also decided that we are going to start making an extreme effort to eat at home instead of going out/eat healthier. Now, we do have our "regular things" like pizza on Fridays with my parents and sometimes on Sunday after church we go out. Oh, and I typically eat at Panera on Tuesdays before my dance class. Anyway, other than those times, we had been eating out ALOT! Not only is it not healthy for us it doesn't exactly help our bank account either.
Last week was the "starter week" and the times you tend to fall off the wagon. But, I must give us credit; we did very well about eating at home. It's a little easier when you only have so much cash to go on and I have to take a lunch to work since I can't leave. We did end up eating out one night because we went to say bye to a friend that was leaving for Kenya (how exciting)! Friday night though, instead of buying pizzas, my mom made the pizza instead. It was way better than delivery anyway.
This week, we have done much better. Sunday evening we went out because we went fishing and it was on the way home and it was late(we did eat lunch at home though). Monday, the holiday, we stayed at home all day and ate sandwiches for lunch and grilled chicken in Italian dressing for dinner (Yum!). Now, here we are on Wednesday and I must say that the turkey sandwich is beginning to get a little old so we are trying to spruce it up a little by making a little extra for dinner so we have some lunch. There is only problem with this is. Take last night for example. We grilled hotdogs for dinner and just made the whole pack so we would have lunch today. I'm not exactly sure how healthy hotdogs are two days in a row.
The next step of this "change" is to learn to cook healthier and make sure that we don't get burned out on the same old same old. Also, included in the next step is more exercise. I will admit that this is difficult in the summer because we are so busy but between mowing lawns, going to dance class and our Y membership, hopefully we will be able to transition to the newer, healthier and hopefully fuller bank account us. Please let me know if any of you have any suggestions for yummy recipes that are good for us and will keep us on the “straight and narrow”.
